Firebrand, ARIA-nominated, Melbourne rockers Kingswood are back in a big, big way today with the release of the barnstorming new single ‘Creepin’. The band also announce local supports for their up and coming national club show tour throughout November, tickets for these up close and personal shows are on sale now.
‘Creepin’ is the band’s first new single since their 2014 top 10 debut album Micorscopic Wars, which premiered via the airwaves on triple j Drive with Veronica and Lewis. The track lures you in with its opening, soothing, psychedelic guitar notes and Fergus Lincare’s tender, soulful vocals, before its jaws close down around you in the form of thunderous drum rolls and a crunching, stadium-sized bass line.
The band’s guitarist and principal songwriter Alex Laska says, “Creepin is a song about the darker and more lustful parts of one’s mind, when longing for an object or person of desire. The idea being an attempt at reconciliation of the thought itself when the reality is an insatiable quest that ultimately transforms the protagonist entirely from something quite innocent and pure into a more sinister, powerful self through recognition of this transformation.”
Laska, who also directed the accompanying video that pits images of the band performing live against the backdrop of a ballet studio, says the concept was inspired by and an attempt to pay homage to Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
“The elements that represent the more pure and innocent initial form are represented by the ‘white swan’ who is affected by her inner darker desires, embodied and portrayed by the ‘demon’ character that ultimately challenges and divides her, resulting in a more powerful ‘dark swan’. There was interest in juxtaposing two art forms that are usually not associated, ballet and alternative rock music, featuring choreography by Kalman Warhaft and Australian Ballet School alumni now based around the world.”
The single and video’s release follows in the footsteps of their recently announced string of nation-wide headline tour dates beginning November 2016.
