Mumford & Sons ‘Gentlemen Of The Road’ – A Photography Exhibition

To celebrate their return to Australia this month, Mumford & Sons announce a special Gentlemen Of The Road photography exhibition to be held on 13-15 November at Young Henry’s Brewery in Newtown, Sydney.

The Gentlemen of the Road concept was devised by Mumford & Sons in 2012 as a vehicle to tour their own show and curate an event that reflected their own musical tastes and provide a unique experience for their fans.  The band has since hosted 17 GOTR Stopover Festivals and headline shows the world over.

The GOTR photography exhibition will document shows in the UK, Australia, US and Canada and across each of GOTR Stopover towns. With exclusive access to archives from some of those closest to the eye of the storm, the exhibition will feature images in a mixture of formats and styles.  All images will be available to purchase in a limited edition run.

The band say:

“Friends, it is with pride and excitement that we announce to you our first Gentlemen of the Road photo show opening in Sydney. This exhibition will showcase the brilliant photography of our very own tour photographer Marcus Haney. Marcus has been shooting the band since their first appearance at Bonnaroo festival in 2009. This selection of his images aims to narrate the story of the small and adventurous GOTR Stopover festival as it winds its way ever further into the lesser visited hillsides and towns of the world.

Marcus’ work is complimented by a selection of images shot by Australian photographer Ty Johnson. Ty had become a close friend and collaborator of the bands and he has weathered more than a few Stopovers in his time. Lastly, a unique perspective is offered by two musicians who occupy their down time taking pictures of their travels. Bass player Ted Dwane and Drummer Chris Maas each contribute four images shot on film and developed on the road in the tour darkroom.

An exhibition of photography documenting the bands own festival, taken by photographers with access to every dressing room and tour bus reveals the band and their team at their most natural. These are not the glossy images suited to the pages of a magazine, but instead show a working band navigating their way through the highs and lows of the road, both on and off the stage.”

The exhibition will take place at Young Henry’s Brewery, who worked with the band to create a special ale to celebrate the release of their current album A Wilder Mind.

Bid for one-of-a-kind banjos signed by Mumford & Sons

It all started this summer during the Gentlemen of the Road charity banjos campaign, benefitting various human needs organizations throughout the US and UK. As the summer came to a close and the auctions were completed Mumford & Sons decided to create similar charity banjos for their Australian this November.

Banjos Down Under have built one custom Goodtime Banjo for each city of Mumford & Sons Australia/New Zealand tour – Brisbane, Auckland, Melbourne, and Sydney – with proceeds going to four equally amazing and noble organizations doing much to help those in need.

These one of a kind custom banjo are crafted with a hard rock American maple neck, a violin grade maple rim and matching resonator, and a true black finish. The drum heads feature the Mumford & Sons 2015 tour wings artwork and each will be personally signed by the band the first day of the tour in Brisbane!

Proceeds for the auction will go to The Australian Red Cross QLD Flood Relief Appeal in Brisbane, White Ribbon in Sydney, Feed Melbourne in Melbourne and Auckland City Mission in New Zealand.
