“Then there’s the album’s sharpest moment, the coursing breakup tune Tompkins Square Park, where the singer demands that someone meet him in the East Village for one last desperate shot of love. The sentiment is Springsteen, the guitars are straight-up Strokes, and even if it’s not going to work out for the relationship in this song, the music itself bristles with self-assurance.” Rolling Stone Magazine
Mumford & Sons release their new single, ‘Tompkins Square Park’, on the 2nd November 2015 through Gentlemen of the Road/ Dew Process / UMA. It is the fourth single, lifted from the band’s number 1 selling, critically acclaimed third album, Wilder Mind.
Tompkins Square Park follows the release of ‘Believe’, ‘The Wolf’, and ‘Ditmas’ from Wilder Mind. It’s a beautifully sprawling tune, showcasing the deft ebb and flow of the band’s musicianship, and another very fine example of what makes Wilder Mind such a scintillating record. The song references the tranquil, open space that sits within the East Village, Manhattan.
Mumford & Sons will return for a short visit to Australia and New Zealand in November, before wrapping up the year with dates in Ireland and the UK, to cap what has been a fantastic, eventful year for the British band.
