If you think it’s been a quiet year for Sydney band Expatriate, – you’d be wrong. Out of sight they may have been but things have taken a significant leap in the right direction for the band in recent months.
It began early in 2008 when they signed a management deal with Riverman Management – the London based management company responsible for the multi-million album selling band Placebo. Expatriate subsequently relocated to Berlin in Germany and signed a European recording deal with Brussels based PIAS Entertainment (the biggest indie recording company in Europe). The band toured with dEUS in December 2008 and spent early 2009 writing and demoing their new album whilst contracts and deals were being finalised.
This European Summer saw the band busy playing all the big Euro festivals sharing the stage with, amongst many others, The Killers, Prodigy, Kings Of Leon, Them Crooked Vultures, Bloc Party, Placebo, Gossip, Kaiser Chiefs at Rock Am Ring/Im Park in Germany, Nova Rock in Austria, Rockwave in Greece, Werchter in Belgium, Moon & Stars in Switzerland plus the massive Sziget Festival in Hungary and Pukklepop in Belgium amongst many others. On top of this, the band have supported US band Dredg in Germany and Placebo on two massive open air shows on balmy evenings in Istanbul and Bucharest!
The long awaited European release of their debut album ‘In The Midst of This’ came in November preceded by a single ‘Crazy’. Following the album release, Expatriate embarked on their most extensive tour to date; a 24 show run as main supporting and special guest of Placebo.. Averaging 10,000 people per night, Expatriate have wooed crowds in France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Poland and Austria.
The band have received rapturous responses from the European crowds and won many new fans throughout.
Expatriate launched their new website recently which features clips from some of their European shows and some acoustic radio shows which they’ve been doing to promotethe album release. There’s also a tour video blog following Expatriate touring France with Placebo - www.expatriateband.com
In December and January the band embark on a run of their first headline shows in England, Germany, France and Switzerland
Never ones to forget their fans back home, Expatriate are all set to record a brand new album in early 2010 and intend to be back in Australia with a new single and tour in the coming months.
