Ahead of their debut Australian tour Wet have just added a host of supports for their select Melbourne show at Howler on Friday March 13th. Teamed with the Brooklyn band’s bone-chillingly beautiful brand of electronic music meets love-struck RnB, Until the Ribbon Breaks bring their moody take on lusty, live-spun hip-hop and The Harpoons join the event with their warm melodies and hazy harmonies for a showcase of young artists that burst with a rich history of soul and endless digitally innovative possibilities.
With their ‘R&B that stings like a splinter’ (Dummy Magazine) Wet, with just one EP, have achieved more than most bands with a sophomore album – a sound they can call their own and a captivating live show that saw the band soar from humble beginnings – room mates and college friends – to a heralded break-out band of 2013’s CMJ Music Marathon.
‘Until the Ribbon Breaks is on the verge of something bigger’ says Wall Street Journal of the once solo project of talented producer and songwriter Pete Lawrie Winfield. The band deftly weaves synthesizers, electric guitars and digital percussion and Winfield’s moody, breathy falsetto that has won him famous fans, including Falls alumni and acclaimed hip-hop duo and now collaborators Run the Jewels.
It’s the harmonies and undeniable melodies that envelop you when The Harpoons are on stage, one that houses bespoke marimbas, deftly handled guitars, and analogue and digital drums like two hearts beating. Twisting old-school soul vocals into the hybrid musical landscape of today the Melbourne four-piece write ballads that burst with energy.
