“There’s a buzz around Paul Conrad that is difficult to ignore” – Clash Magazine (Track of the Day 9/10)
Fresh off inking deals with Island Records in the UK and Primary Talent the house of Alt J; Lana Del Rey & Kirin J Callinan, and touring Australia with Winterbourne & Eves the Behavior, Paul Conrad offers the world his latest track, which was premiered by John Kennedy on Radio X in the UK and video that was first seen on Clash Magazine for new single ‘California’, which is out now via Dew Process/Universal Music Australia. ‘California’ is an infectious follow up to Conrad’s ominous and incredibly powerful track ‘Records’ and will be featured on his forthcoming EP, which is slated for release early next year.
Similar to the audio, the clip according to Conrad was “ideally designed to exhibit the dichotomous manifestations of circumstances conducive to the upper echelons of societal constructs whereby money, beauty and good fortune waver and acquiesce in the face of insecurity, inner torment & the evil that resides within all of us.”
Attracting buzz online, Paul Conrad combines his years of orchestral study with an unruly attitude to create his hybrid of alt-pop music; the perfect storm of hazy vocals, massive choruses and un-apologetic realism wrapped in dark electronic beats. Conrad’s bold worldviews, quick-wit and razor sharp tongue has become his emblem and will undoubtedly continue to write itself as he reveals himself from the shadows narrating exactly what we are all thinking, but too scared to say.
