Our very own celebrated singer-songwriter Bernard Fanning has announced he’ll be joined by Melbourne’s #1 Dads, our own Mosman Alder and more in a special live concert to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of national charity Youngcare.
Brisbane’s iconic City Hall will host the Youngcare Benefit Concert, supported by Youngcare’s Foundation Partner Suncorp Insurance, on Saturday 10 October 2015.
Sharing the stage with Fanning, who is recently home from a European tour, will be emerging Brisbane six-piece Mosman Alder and Melbourne’s highly-acclaimed and recording-breaking #1 Dads.
Fanning said he was honoured to be invited to curate the fourth Youngcare Benefit Concert; the events have raised more than $650,000 for young Aussies with high care needs.
“The first concert that we did at City Hall in 2006 holds some incredible memories for me,” Fanning said.
“It was an atmosphere like no other I have experienced as a performer. I can’t wait to be part of it again. It’s an iconic venue that rarely hosts concerts such as these.
“I take great pleasure in welcoming Mosman Alder and #1 Dads headed by the multi-talented Tom Iansek and his host of merry guests, as well as my own band and returning funny man Julian Morrow.
“As always, we also have a special surprise guest. Come along and be part of it, help a great cause and be entertained up to the eyeballs for your trouble.”
Over the years, the Youngcare Benefit Concert has been host to a mouth-watering list of performers who have donated their time. Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers, Powderfinger, Pete Murray, Tim Rogers and Clare Bowditch are just some of the artists to have graced the Youngcare stage.
“I am yet to come across an artist who doesn’t want to be involved in some way,” Fanning said.
Mosman Alder collectively said: “We are delighted to find ourselves in a position to contribute as a band to such a worthy cause. And what a privilege to be sharing the stage with artists of such a high calibre! We feel truly humbled to be part of the whole event”.
For the past ten years, Bernard has helped Youngcare shine a bright light on the issues faced by young Aussies with high care needs, inspired by his friendship with David and Shevaune Conrry – with Shevaune being Youngcare’s inspiration.
Since 2005, Youngcare has worked to provide purpose-built accommodation, grants, research and a support phone line for thousands of young Australians living in aged care and hundreds of thousands more being cared for at home by loved ones.
CEO Samantha Kennerley said Youngcare is extremely grateful for Fanning’s long-time support.
“Bernard is a tireless champion for young people with high care needs and Youngcare,” Mrs Kennerley said. “We are enormously thankful to all the musicians who give their time and talent.
“Fans know that coming along to a Youngcare Benefit Concert guarantees a good time for a great cause – and they always sell-out fast!
“Every dollar raised by this concert helps give more young people with high care needs voice, choice and control over their own lives.
“The generosity of our supporters, and music lovers from around the nation, is overwhelming. In particular, our Foundation Partner Suncorp Insurance, who have again rallied their support to help Youngcare deliver another great concert experience.
“Since that first concert in 2006, Youngcare has built homes for dozens of young Aussies who needed to get out of residential aged care, and provided more than $2.2 million to over 400 young people through our grants programs.
“We’ve set the standard for a new model-of-care with our recently opened share house for four young people in Brisbane, and we’re about to kick off our first development in Sydney – apartments for eight young people at Auburn.
“There have been some incredible advances in care and accommodation but there is still plenty of work to do. With your support, we can help more young people live the young lives they deserve, and take Youngcare into the next decade and beyond.”
